I have never been shy over voicing my disappointment and displeasure over the state of sex and nudity in video games. We have the almost never used the ESRB's Adults Only rating. When we do, the offending game better change its content or risk not being sold at any major retailer. We do have mentions of sex in games like Mass Effect, GTA, and Heavy Rain, but with the showing of alien side-boob, comes enormous controversy. Every gamer knows the mainstream media's overreaction to such stories as "Hot Coffee" or "Sexbox." They claim to only care about the children who might be playing M rated games, they forget that the kids who played Super Mario in the 1980's are now adults. As one of the NES generation, I think it's ridiculous that sex, for the most part, is still a gaming taboo.
And you know what? I'm excited to see how it turns out. Maybe it will just feel like an RPG version of Leisure Suit Larry. Although, it seems the exploration of human sexuality will be more developed and interesting than just trying to pick-up chicks. I'm hoping Polymorphous Perversity can show that sex is a topic worthy of adult gamers' attention. At the least, it's getting the gaming community to talk to about sex and that's fine by me.
According to the game's blog, Polymorphous Perversity was finished late last month and will start the testing phase soon.
