2012 has seen a rise is specialist gaming websites. Earlier in the year we were treated to Hookshot Inc, a gaming website that only covers games with a price-tag of $15 or less.
These type of websites are a fantastic idea. Having a website dedicated to one specific area is a great way for readers to get direct information about a subject the major sites wouldn't be able to cover.
Taking this idea of specialist gaming websites, is 1MoreCastle.com, the brainchild of Eric Bailey and Andrew Carreiro, a new retro-gaming website which boldly aims to be the go to place for all your retro needs.
“Video game coverage is not difficult to find online. Countless outlets, from many speciality destinations to a handful of heavy-hitting mainstream sites, provide players with news, reviews, videos, and other features.” reads the 1 More Castle press release.
“For retro gamers, however, such a catch-all hub has been elusive. Those who still play old video games from another age have had to rely on a patchwork of niche blogs, independent creators, and forums to get their latest information and entertainment. Eric Bailey, NES game reviewer who blogs at NintendoLegend.com, noticed the lack of a “one great site” for retro gamers and brought up an idea with the eventual co-founder of 1MoreCastle.com, app developer and graphics guru Andrew Carreiro. The result of several brainstorming sessions, strategy meetings, and an intense application process was a product they believed could fill the void.”
As someone who cut their teeth on a Sinclair Spectrum, the idea of “one great site” that focuses entirely on all things retro is a truly innovative idea. Why not have a website dedicated to the games of our past? Why does it have to split over several hundred blogs to find a good read?
There are so many gems from the golden age of Nintendo and SEGA that many gamers will have missed. So many of these gems do withstand the test of time and often, can surpass what is being released in the current gaming-climate.
Give me Sonic 2 over Sonic 4 any day.
1 More Castle is gearing up to be the gaming site of 2012, offering compelling articles alongside a sense of nostalgia that is clearly born out of a shared passion for all things retro.
If you're a fan of retro, or want to see what all the fuss is about, head on over to 1MoreCastle.com. You won't be disappointed.
